# Ending your plan

> Turn off auto-renew to stop at the end of the billing cycle, or terminate the account immediately, and see what happens afterwards.

There are two ways to stop paying for Typewise, and they differ in when access
ends. Turning off **auto-renew** lets you keep the plan you have already paid
for until the end of the current billing cycle. **Terminating** the account ends
it right away.

<Info>
  Only **Admins** can do either, and both are available on Starter and Growth
  only. Enterprise accounts are billed by contract, so ending a plan is arranged
  with our sales team.
</Info>

## Which one to use

|                    | Auto-renew off                   | Terminate account        |
| ------------------ | -------------------------------- | ------------------------ |
| When access ends | End of the current billing cycle | Immediately |
| Rest of the term | You keep using what you paid for | Given up |
| Billed at the time | Nothing extra | Outstanding overage only |
| Reversible         | Yes, turn auto-renew back on     | No                       |

Turning off auto-renew is the better choice in almost every case, because you
have already paid for the current cycle either way.

## Turn off auto-renew

Auto-renew is on by default. When you turn it off, your plan stays exactly as it
is and simply does not renew: at the end of the current billing cycle the
account is terminated automatically, and no further base fee is charged.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your plan">
    Go to [Billing](https://platform.typewise.app/billing) and open the **Plan &
    limits** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn off the toggle">
    On the plan card, turn off **Auto-renew**, next to the automatic overage
    charging toggle.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Confirm that you want to stop renewing. Access continues to the end of the
    current billing cycle.
  </Step>
</Steps>

On an annual plan, the cycle that matters is the annual term, so you keep access
until the term you paid for runs out. Your monthly usage is still measured and
invoiced as normal until then.

<Note>
  Changed your mind? Turn **Auto-renew** back on any time before the cycle ends
  and nothing happens. The toggle is not available during a free trial, because
  a trial does not renew.
</Note>

## Terminate the account

Terminating ends access immediately and cannot be undone. Use it only if you
want to stop before the end of a cycle you have already paid for.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your plan">
    Go to [Billing](https://platform.typewise.app/billing) and open the **Plan &
    limits** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Terminate account">
    On the plan card, choose **Terminate account**. The same action ends a free
    trial.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    A confirmation dialog explains that access ends immediately and that any
    outstanding overage is invoiced now. Choose **Terminate account** to go
    ahead, or **Keep plan** to back out.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### The final invoice

Terminating does not write off usage you have already run. Before the
termination is applied, Typewise issues one final invoice for any usage that
went past your allowance in the current period.

That invoice covers **overage only**. The monthly base fee and your committed
seats are already paid for the period being closed, so they are not charged
again. If you have no overage to settle, no final invoice is created.

Your prepaid pack balance is drawn down against that outstanding overage first,
and any account credit you hold is applied to the final invoice. Whatever is
left over is not refunded automatically, so contact
[support@typewise.app](mailto:support@typewise.app) if you have a balance to
discuss.

<Note>
  Because the final invoice is issued before the termination is applied, a
  failed invoice leaves your plan active so it can be retried. If you terminate
  during a trial, overage is measured against the trial allowance.
</Note>

## After the plan ends

However the plan ends, the result is the same. Access to the platform stops,
your plan card collapses to a **Plan canceled** status line, and the self-serve
billing actions are no longer available: you cannot switch plan, add seats, or
buy packs. Billing stays reachable so you can see your final invoice and
history.

Ending a plan is final, so coming back means setting up a plan again. Contact
[support@typewise.app](mailto:support@typewise.app) to reactivate.

## When an account stops processing

Typewise never throws away incoming messages. Whatever state your account is in,
email, chat, and WhatsApp messages are still received and stored, tickets are
still created, and affected tickets are left waiting for a human reply. What
changes is how much Typewise does with them.

There are two levels.

### AI processing off

The AI Operator stops replying, automated follow-ups and other automation stop,
knowledge sources stop being crawled, and CRM sync stops for the affected
tickets. Your team can still log in and answer conversations manually.

This applies once a payment has been outstanding for **more than 7 days**. See
[Failed payments](/documentation/billing/invoices#failed-payments).

### Suspended

Everything above, plus platform access itself is blocked until billing is sorted
out. This applies when:

* An invoice is still unpaid after about 30 days
* A
  [mid-cycle resolution charge](/documentation/billing/invoices#mid-cycle-resolution-charges)
  goes unpaid and usage keeps climbing
* The account has been terminated, or the plan was not renewed
* A free trial ended without a card on file, though you can still log in to pick
  a plan

Nothing is lost in either state. Your history is intact if you pay up or
reactivate.
