# Free trial

> Start a free trial without a credit card, and activate a paid plan when you are ready.

Every new account starts on a free trial. You do not need a credit card to
begin, so you can try the AI Operator before you pay.

## What the trial includes

The trial runs for **14 days** with a small included allowance for Nova (AI
Operator) credits, resolutions, agent seats, and workspaces. Your current trial
allowance and days remaining appear on the **Plan & limits** tab.

While you are on the trial, the estimated upcoming bill and the **Invoices** tab
are hidden, because nothing is being charged yet.

<Info>
  Nothing you use during a trial is billable, so the trial allowance is a **hard
  stop** rather than something you can go over and pay for. There is no overage
  during a trial, and adding a card does not change that. See [When the trial
  ends](#when-the-trial-ends) for what happens at each allowance.
</Info>

You also cannot add agent seats during the trial, because seats start a
recurring charge and the trial has no card on file. Activate a plan first.
Trials start on Starter, so buying prepaid packs needs an upgrade to Growth as
well.

## Activate a paid plan

To keep using Typewise after the trial, activate a plan and add a payment
method. You can choose Starter or Growth, and monthly or annual billing, from
the [plan picker](/documentation/billing/plans-and-pricing#change-your-plan).

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Billing">
    Go to [Billing](https://platform.typewise.app/billing) and open the **Plan &
    limits** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Activate a plan">
    Click **Activate plan**, then choose monthly or annual billing and select
    **Starter** or **Growth**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a payment method">
    If you do not have a card on file yet, Typewise opens a secure checkout to
    capture it. See [Payment &
    auto-charge](/documentation/billing/payment-methods) for details.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm activation">
    Once the card is saved and the plan is confirmed, your account becomes
    active on the plan you selected. The base fee for the new term is charged
    immediately, minus any account credit.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Activating a plan ends the trial there and then. Whatever is left of your
  trial credit and resolution allowance is not lost: it carries over onto your
  new plan as a **prepaid pack balance**, which is used before you are charged
  any overage. See [Prepaid
  packs](/documentation/billing/add-ons#prepaid-packs).
</Note>

Adding a card on its own is not a request to start paying. If you add one part
way through the trial, you keep the rest of your trial days and are converted on
the day it ends.

## When the trial ends

<Note>
  If your trial ends without a card on file, a blocking message asks you to
  **Select plan**. Activate a plan and add a payment method to restore access
  right away.
</Note>

A trial can end in four ways.

* **You activate a plan before the trial ends**: your account converts to the
  paid plan straight away and continues without interruption. Unused trial
  credits and resolutions carry over as a prepaid pack balance.
* **You use up your trial credits**: further Nova (AI Operator) runs are blocked
  until you activate a plan. This happens whether or not you have a card on
  file, because trial usage is never billable. The rest of the platform keeps
  working.
* **You use up your trial resolutions**: the trial **ends immediately**, with
  the same result as reaching day 14. Resolutions are an allowance, not
  pay-as-you-go, so running out is the end of the trial rather than the start of
  a bill.
* **You reach day 14**: if a card is on file, your account converts to the paid
  plan automatically and the base fee is charged that day. If there is no card,
  a blocking modal asks you to select a plan. Completing activation unblocks the
  account. Until then the AI Operator stops replying and automation stops
  running, although incoming messages are still received and stored. See
  [When an account stops processing](/documentation/billing/cancellation#when-an-account-stops-processing).

## End the trial early

If you decide not to continue, you can end the trial yourself from the **Plan &
limits** tab with **Terminate account**. There is nothing to pay: trial usage is
not billable, and the allowance stops you before it can turn into a charge. A
trial does not renew, so there is no auto-renew toggle to worry about. See
[Ending your plan](/documentation/billing/cancellation).
