# Autocorrection

> Fix typos and grammar as you type, and keep names and company terms as written

Typewise checks your spelling and grammar as you type. Clear typos are fixed
straight away, and anything less certain is underlined for you to decide. You
can undo any change, and words you tell it to keep are never corrected again.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Autocorrection is switched on per company. To turn it on or off for your
> company, ask your Typewise contact.

## Where it works

Autocorrection runs in most larger text fields across the platform:

* The [reply composer](https://docs.typewise.app/documentation/tickets/conversation-view/composer.md),
including notes, forwards, and AI drafts you edit
* Guidelines and handoff conditions for your company, channels, and Specialists
* Descriptions and instructions, such as **When to use this source** and
  **Action description**
* Email signatures and the CSAT headline
* Simulator scenarios and test success criteria

It doesn't run in short fields such as names, the
[AI Operator (Nova)](https://docs.typewise.app/documentation/nova/for-agents/overview.md) chat box, **When
to use this specialist?**, or the spam classification prompt.

Opening a field doesn't trigger a check. Once you edit it, checks can include
existing text in the surrounding sentence.

## What the underlines mean

| Underline | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Blue** | Typewise already changed this word. Click it to undo. |
| **Red** | Typewise thinks this is wrong but has not changed it. Click it to choose a fix. |

Spelling is checked each time you finish a word, so when you type a space or
start a new line. Grammar is checked when you end a sentence, or after you pause
for a couple of seconds, and can cover several words at once.

The first check on pasted text only suggests changes, and skips pastes longer
than 1,500 characters. Later edits can trigger normal checks.

## Accepting or undoing a correction

Click an underlined word, or move the cursor onto it, to open the correction
menu. Use the arrow keys and `Enter` to pick an option, or `Esc` to close it.

For a **blue** word that was already changed, the menu offers:

* **Accept**, which keeps the correction and removes the underline
* **Revert to** your original word
* **Add to dictionary**, for spelling fixes only
* Other suggestions, if there are any

For a **red** word, the menu lists the suggested fixes, with the most likely one
first, and **Add to dictionary** for spelling.

> [!TIP]
>
> Pressing `Ctrl/Cmd + Z` right after a correction undoes only that correction,
> not the rest of what you typed. Typewise will not correct that word again in
> the same place.

## Words that are never corrected

### Your dictionary

Choose **Add to dictionary** on a spelling correction to stop Typewise
correcting that word for you. The word goes back to how you wrote it, and it
isn't corrected for you in any field from then on.

Typewise also learns from your undos. If you undo spelling corrections of the
same word on two separate occasions, it's added to your dictionary.

### Shared with your team

A word becomes part of the whole team's dictionary, across every workspace in
your account, when:

* **Two people** add it to their dictionary, or
* **Two people** undo a spelling correction of that word

Until then, a word you add only applies to you.

### Your company's own words

Typewise builds a list of your company's vocabulary, such as product names,
brand terms, and internal codes, and never corrects those words. The list comes
from:

* Your published guidelines, handoff conditions, Specialists, and company
  description
* Websites and other sources in the
[Knowledge Hub](https://docs.typewise.app/documentation/knowledge/overview.md), after they are crawled
* Replies your agents sent in the last 90 days. A word must appear in replies
from at least three different agents, so one person's habitual typo is not
  learned.

Words that look like a common misspelling of an everyday word are left off the
list. The list is refreshed every week.

### Words in the conversation

In the reply composer, any word already written in the ticket's conversation is
left as written. Customer names, order numbers, and product terms the customer
used are not corrected when you type them back.

> [!NOTE]
>
> This also means a typo already in the conversation is not corrected in that
> ticket.

## Languages

Spelling is corrected in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch,
Portuguese, Polish, Czech, Turkish, Danish, and Swedish. Grammar is checked in
German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Polish.

Typewise detects the language from what you type. When the text alone is not
enough to tell, it prefers the ticket's language, then your browser's languages.
Text in a language it does not correct is left alone.
